Tile installation products from Laticrete were specified for a renovation project at the Ascot Vale residence, an old Victorian home built in 1906.
The homeowner retained Nicholas Murray Architects to execute a renovation project at the property involving the addition of an en-suite bathroom and powder room to the side of the house. A key challenge for the architect was to ensure the extension complemented the flow of the existing home.
Architect Nicholas Murray, builder Craig Kinney, Chris Stenhouse from Wall & Floor Tiling and the tile manufacturer Refin worked together to ensure that the finished project had impressive outcomes. A total of 81 square metres of tiling was required for the project.
To address the problem of wastage disposal of the tiles during installation, Chris suggested laying both wall and floor tiles in a random pattern where the off-cuts would be used in another row, minimising waste generation. The project used large format tiles measuring 1500mm x 750mm.
The contractor Chris selected HYDRO BAN waterproofing and 335 Premium flexible adhesive from Laticrete.
Specified for waterproofing the shower walls from floor to ceiling, HYDRO BAN is a thin, load bearing waterproofing/ crack isolation membrane that does not require the use of fabric in the field, coves or corners. HYDRO BAN is a single component, self curing liquid rubber polymer that forms a flexible, seamless waterproofing membrane and bonds directly to a wide variety of substrates.
Laticrete’s 335 Premium flexible adhesive was the perfect choice for the large and extremely heavy tiles. A high performance thin-bed adhesive, 335 Premium is ideal for installing a wide range of tiles and stone including low absorption ceramic tile, porcelain tile, and natural and manufactured stone using the thin-set method of installation.
Chris ensured the entire en-suite and bathroom areas were waterproofed including the bathroom floor, shower walls, vanity and behind the bath. As a cost effective, high performance waterproofing membrane, HYDRO BAN has helped him cut down on labour and increase his productivity.
The LATICRETE Technical Sales Rep was extremely helpful, promptly addressing technical questions about substrate preparation and tiling over the under tile floor heating/ warming system.
