Architects, building designers and building owners are invited to submit their entries for the 2019 Lysaght Inspirations Design Awards. Introduced in 2018, the awards program celebrates outstanding Australian architectural work that incorporates LYSAGHT steel building products.
“If the success of last year’s competition is anything to go by, we can expect to again be inundated by nominations of the highest quality this year. We look forward to receiving more examples of the architecture and design talent that exists in this country today,” said Matt Lloyde, Lysaght’s national sales, marketing and innovation manager.
This year’s edition features five categories including a new category exclusively for all architectural or design students currently enrolled at Australian universities and colleges, as well as recent graduates in these disciplines. Entries in the Student Category will be judged on a conceptual and design basis rather than the completed project status required for the other award categories.
“The introduction of this new category is particularly exciting. We believe that it will provide students with a real opportunity to not only express their creativity, but also consider and familiarise themselves with the design possibilities and applications of steel products,” said Lloyde.
2019 Lysaght Inspirations Design Awards - Categories
- Commercial and Industrial (office, retail, warehouse, education, institutions, factories, processing facilities and agricultural)
- Residential (houses, villas, apartments, aged care and similar)
- Buildings featuring ZENITH cladding (structures utilising products from the LYSAGHT ZENITH range of architectural cladding)
- Heritage and Restoration (refurbishment of existing building and structures)

Nominations will be evaluated by a panel of expert judges representing the architectural fraternity, industry, and the media.
The winner of the Student Category will receive a cash prize of $5,000 cash, while the winners of all other categories will receive $2,000 and their winning projects will feature in the next edition of Lysaght’s ‘Design Inspiration’ publication. Where applicable, this will include acknowledgment of the winner and their company.
All category winners (apart from the Student Category) will then be in the running for the major award of the program, ‘Lysaght Inspirations Design Award’. This ultimate winner will receive a trip for two to the World Architectural Festival in Amsterdam in December this year, as well as $5,000 spending money. In addition, the winning project will be featured on the cover of the next edition of Lysaght’s ‘Design Inspiration’ publication, including acknowledgment of the winner and their company, where applicable.
Nominations to the Lysaght Inspirations Design Awards must clearly display a significant proportion of LYSAGHT steel building products and refer to projects completed between January 1, 2014 and June 30, 2019.
Entry to the Awards closes on July 28, 2019. Entries can only be submitted on the dedicated Awards website.
