A modern rural home designed as a family residence on a 175-acre farm in the Sunshine Coast hinterland is strongly focussed on sustainability. Designed by architect Matt Cooper of Aspect Architecture and built by Mosaic Construction, the Two Roads home won the 2016 Master Builders Sunshine Coast House of the Year Award.
Located in the hills behind Maleny, the warm and comfortable family residence was described by the jury as a stunning piece of architecture. According to the owners, Two Roads Home is designed for easy living, where “everyone can find their own space when needed”. Connected and separated by simple axis, the pavilion style living areas serve to create circulation zones that flow into various spaces for flexible living throughout the day and into the different seasons.
A major challenge for the architect Matt Cooper of Aspect Architecture, Mosaic Property Group’s Interior Designer Margie Sullivan and the owners came from having to create a modern and innovative home that heavily incorporated the honest elements of a working farm. With sustainability as the objective, the materials needed to be timeless, functional and able to adapt to the family’s growing needs.
