The Skyedome at the Karingal Bowls Club is the newest architectural addition to Melbourne’s bayside suburb of Frankston.
Located on Skye Road, the Karingal Bowls Club canopy is a single green membrane structure installed by MakMax Australia and constructed in their popular Hawkesbill (Leaning Arch) design.
Completed in 2021, the canopy is fabricated with the hardwearing and highly-attractive PTFE fabric (Chukoh FGT800) and measures 1800sqm in size.
The large canopy has become a focal point for the Frankston community, with its construction attracting the attention of the Herald Sun during construction, and the finished product featuring in the Inside Bowls Magazine in March 2021.
“It’s not uncommon for ‘more senior’ bowlers to be resistant to change – and my fellow members at Karingal were no exception when it came to erecting an all-weather facility. However, now that our magnificent ‘Skyedome’ is complete and we’re bowling day and night in all weather conditions, they are cock-a-hoop and proudly boast how good it is. We reckon it’s perfect and we’ve seen most of them, the Rolls Royce of fabric roof structures, no doubt,” commented David Allen, chairman, Karingal Bowling Club.
