MakMax Australia was contracted to engineer, fabricate and certify the new bowls roof for Cooktown Bowls Club.
The brief required the new roof to be engineered for cyclonic conditions, able to withstand wind speeds of up to 68.8 metres per second. A first for the industry, the cyclone-proof roof was expected to provide much-needed relief to the North Queensland club.
MakMax designed the new 1600-square-metre structure using Chukoh FGT800 PTFE fabric and featuring free-spanning columns of 40 metres.
