Marmox Australia makes its shower trays with either an extruded polystyrene core or as a solid base. The advantage of the extruded polystyrene core is that the shower trays are lightweight and easy to cut. Whereas the advantage of using the solid base is that it can be fixed directly onto the floor joist.
Extruded polystyrene shower trays are faced with a fibreglass mesh embedded into a cement polymer mortar on each side. The solid bases are constructed from modified acrylic binder together with well graded silica fillers.
The extruded polystyrene shower trays need to be fully supported by a structured floor but this is not necessary with the solid base shower trays. Extruded polystyrene shower trays are perfect for wet rooms and showers in confined locations because they can be cut into irregular, even circular shapes.
The shower trays are sturdy enough to have mosaic tiles or waterproof sheeting laid on them without the risk of the trays compressing under the weight. They can be lined with tiles as small as 50 mm.
Marmox shower trays are an economical way to achieve a waterproof shower system. They are 100 per cent water proof and acoustically superior to screed. These trays give the user easy, floor level access and are available with an offset or central drain. The extruded polystyrene shower trays can weigh as little as 3.5 kg and can be cut to fit on site.
Installation of both models of shower trays involves no skilled laying of falls and both are very hygienic as no moisture builds up underneath the tiles.
