Empowering the future
In 2022, Moddex launched the Design Academy Program, an initiative aimed at nurturing the next generation of design talent. The program offers young enthusiasts, especially recent high school graduates with a knack for Industrial Graphics, Robotics, Engineering, or CAD Design, a unique opportunity to grow their careers in design. The academy’s mission is to provide a holistic development path that includes skill enhancement, networking, and real-world experience.
Our design team is trained and encouraged to be highly skilled and passionate people who are up-to-date with the latest tech, pushing the envelope and challenging the status quo.
The recent appointment of Clayton Weidemen as Design Manager marks a significant milestone in the academy’s journey. With a fresh perspective and a dynamic approach, Clayton oversees the entire design academy, ensuring that every initiative aligns with Moddex’s standards of excellence and innovation. His dedication to the program’s success and his efforts have already made a noticeable impact, underscoring the importance of leadership in fostering a culture of continuous improvement and satisfaction.
“I joined Moddex at the start of September 2023. It has been refreshing to see how differently Moddex does business. I was introduced to the GGOB “great game of business” and have never seen a business with so much transparency. At first, I thought that sharing that level of detail could be risky but now I understand why and how much that motivates the team,” says Weidemen.
“Adding to this is how seriously Moddex take their core values. It rings true to how important their people and culture are to them and how much they try to create an enjoyable working environment. What’s been enjoyable for me is carrying out our core values with the design team, and them understanding that I am 100% behind them and not in front of them.
“Coming from humble beginnings with young fresh minds never having used CAD software to now being directly involved in advancing how we design, providing suggestions and them sharing their insights, seeing their excitement and enjoyment from completing projects is what gives me the most satisfaction.
“I am only as good as the team we are building and the more we work together the better we become at providing more value to the business, this has been the most rewarding aspect for me.”
A growing team, a broader impact
The Design Academy team has expanded to 18 members, significantly enhancing its capacity to innovate and deliver exceptional results. This growth not only reflects the program’s success but also Moddex’s commitment to investing in future talents and expanding its reach to meet and exceed customer needs.
Blake Napier was one of the first drafters to start within the academy and has now climbed to Design Scheduler.
“Working with Moddex has been a fulfilling journey. I’ve learnt about maintaining a balance between creativity and practicality, ensuring our designs meet both aesthetic standards and functional needs. I’m proud of how we’ve managed to streamline our processes and deliver high-quality results. If there’s one thing I know, we never lose, we just postpone winning,” says Napier.
