Project background
Marchwiel Street in Timaru required a safety balustrade installed along the edge of a high retaining wall. The purpose was to prevent pedestrians from accidentally falling from the footpath down the steep hill below.
Fulton Hogan’s decision to engage Moddex for the project stemmed from a recommendation by one of their existing contractors. Following a thorough site visit and scoping session, Moddex proposed a fit-for-purpose solution that precisely met the client’s requirements, leading to their acceptance of the proposal.
Moddex supplied and installed our standard Conectabal CB10 balustrade, powdercoated in a unique blue colour. Upon completion, the client was very satisfied with the outcome, describing it as “fantastic” and commenting that “the whole process went smoothly from start to finish”.
Speed of install
The installation of the balustrade was exceptionally smooth and efficient, and completed in less than a day. The innovative modular design allowed for quick and easy assembly onsite, and minimised the need for time-consuming adjustments and modifications during the installation, reducing install time significantly.
Overcoming project issues
One of the challenges faced by Moddex on this project was fabricating to the angle of the footpath. Moddex conducted a site measure and prepared a full set of shop drawings to be reviewed and approved by our client onsite prior to manufacture. This process allowed Moddex to provide a fit-for-purpose solution that was installed and fitted seamlessly to the angle of the path.
