Balustrades and disability handrails from Moddex were installed at the Loxton Recreation Centre in Loxton, SA during the facility’s $13.2 million upgrade completed in January 2020.
Part of the Building Better Regions Fund aimed to create jobs, drive economic growth, and build stronger regional communities into the future, the Loxton Recreation Centre upgrade opened the doors to a plethora of new opportunities for the community. New facilities include a sports stadium with two indoor courts, mezzanine level function area, a tiered seating area and sporting bar that interconnects with an existing grandstand covered by a new canopy roof structure and associated landscaping.
Why was Moddex selected?
Having previously worked with BADGE Constructions, Moddex was specified to supply and install balustrades on the internal and external stairs, and stadium stairs of the concourse. BADGE Constructions knew they could rely on Moddex’s modular system being quick to manufacture and install.
A product with short lead time and easy installation was a critical factor for the project. Moddex was the perfect fit due to the modular nature of the system, as well as ensured compliance to the Australian Stadium and C5 Crowd Loading Standards. Designed for arenas and grandstands, the proprietary Moddex Conectabal system was installed to help mitigate and eliminate falls from elevated areas of the recreation centre. For disabled access areas, Assistrail disability handrails were used throughout the complex. With nine configurations available in the Conectabal family, the modular system can easily integrate with Moddex’s Tuffrail and Assistrail ranges, making specification simple.
The balustrades were custom finished with a pleasing black powdercoat from the Dulux range, alongside an offset stainless steel handrail, creating a neat architectural and top-quality aesthetic appeal.
Project outcomes
Known for their highly collaborative approach, Moddex worked closely alongside the sub-contractors onsite to ensure exact placement of the stanchions with extreme accuracy and superb attention to detail. Due to the modular design, no welding was required onsite resulting in quick and flexible installation. The installers were able to complete their work with ease as the building was being constructed, thus enabling no interruptions in construction operations. Moddex led a seamless process every step of the way and is proud to be involved in a project that supports and provides long term benefits to regional Riverland in South Australia.
