What is AFR BOSS Best Places to Work?

The Australian Financial Review (AFR) BOSS Best Places to Work Awards are a prestigious accolade recognising companies in Australia and New Zealand that excel in creating exceptional workplaces. These awards celebrate organisations that prioritise employee wellbeing, foster positive work environments, and implement innovative workplace practices.

Moddex was proud to be listed as #6 Best Place to Work in the highly competitive Manufacturing and Consumer Goods category. We are humbled by the recognition of our efforts in creating a workplace that fosters growth, collaboration, and innovation.

Why Moddex ranks among Australia’s Top 10 Best Workplaces

At Moddex, our vision is more than just a statement; it’s a commitment to every member of our team. We understand that our employees are the heartbeat of our organisation, driving us towards our goal of creating the most trusted pathways in work and in life. With this belief at the core of our culture, we invest heavily in programs aimed at making Moddex not just a workplace, but a fulfilling and enriching experience for each individual.

We wanted to create an Employee Value Proposition (EVP) that addressed the diverse needs of our team. We have employees:

  • in white collar and blue collar roles;
  • who have different physical capabilities;
  • balancing caregiving needs for dependents, both children and elderly;
  • with differing professional development goals.

A one-size-fits-all approach to our employee benefits and perks was never going to satisfy the wants of our team. We surveyed the team to see what they wanted and need from Moddex and created an EVP to address the wide ranges of responses we received.

“At Moddex, we recognise that our success is inseparable from the wellbeing and fulfilment of our employees, and that’s why we are dedicated to investing in programs that make our workplace truly exceptional. When the team thrives, Moddex thrives. It really is that simple,” says Kate McKenzie, Chief People Officer.

Thriving at Moddex: What it truly means for our employees

Our EVP, Thrive at Moddex, was built on our core belief that when the team thrives, Moddex thrives. We created an EVP that empowers the team to prioritise their holistic wellbeing. We invest in programs that support professional wellbeing, personal wellbeing, financial wellbeing and social wellbeing. By addressing these 4 pillars of wellbeing, employees can pick and choose what benefits they decide to use depending on what suits them and their lives best at any given point in time. We refer to Thrive as a “buffet where you can pick and choose what benefits you feel like based on appetite and preference.”

Professional wellbeing

At Moddex, we recognise the uniqueness of each team member and empower them to design their own development pathway. Through initiatives such as ‘My Development Pathway’, financial assistance for further study, mentorship opportunities, and recognition of professional achievements, we invest in the professional wellbeing of our team, ensuring they have the tools and support to reach their highest potential.

“From Reception to Recruitment Manager to People & Culture Advisor, Moddex’s unwavering support fuelled my journey. And with their Thrive initiative, it’s not just about work – it’s about personal growth! With immense gratitude for the boost, I’m eager and energised for what’s ahead,” says Kylie Stet, People & Culture Advisor.

Financial wellbeing

Our commitment to fair pay, annual salary reviews, profit-sharing for all team members, and financial literacy training reflects our belief that every team member deserves to be rewarded for their contribution to our collective success. Moddex’s financial wellbeing initiatives extend to discounts, bonuses, and comprehensive financial assistance, providing our team with the means to thrive both inside and outside the workplace.

“Moddex really cares about their employees and invests in individuals’ development, not only providing training that is relevant to their role but also offering financial training through the Great Game of Business, wellness hints and support through EAP Assist. Achievements are always celebrated across the whole company including rewards for meeting KPIs and cooked breaky when a large order is won,” says Nikki Fox, Business Development.

Personal wellbeing

We understand that personal wellbeing is integral to overall happiness and productivity. Moddex prioritises the physical and mental health of our team through initiatives such as discounted gym memberships, access to guided workouts, mental health tools, flexible working arrangements, parental leave, paid volunteer leave and employee assistance program. By investing in the personal wellbeing of our team, we create an environment where individuals can thrive holistically.

“As a parent at Moddex, I appreciate our wellbeing initiatives like flexible working arrangements, guided workouts and mental health tools. These benefits help me stay balanced and healthy, allowing me to be fully present both at work and with my family,” says Elle Dickson, Head of Marketing.

Social Wellbeing

At Moddex, we work hard, have fun, and celebrate success as one winning team. Initiatives such as daily, weekly, and monthly updates, all-team events, culture teams like ‘The ModSquad’, peer-nominated awards, and leave benefits contribute to a positive social wellbeing environment. By fostering connections and celebrating achievements, we create a workplace where every team member feels a sense of camaraderie and shared success.

“For me, Moddex isn’t just a workplace; it’s a hub of support and connection on all levels, where my colleagues feel like friends, making every day brighter and more fulfilling,” says Edward Archer, Business Development Manager.
