The Frank Bartlett Memorial Library and Moe Service Centre located in Moe, VIC, serves as a community gathering space for the small town’s inhabitants.
Located on George Street, the building, which opened in 2016, connects the dislocated precincts of the town, and has reinvigorated a town that lacked a central gathering space.
Designed by FJMT Studio, the new library and community building stands out both for its purpose that benefits the inhabitants of Moe as well as for the architectural value of the work.
Suspended above a curved podium and dramatically cantilevering over the public space, are two timber cladded volumes oriented directly down the main street. Those two impressive prisms are clad in ProdEX natural wood panels by Prodema in a pale tone.
The Frank Bartlett Library and Service Centre was awarded the Australian 2017 National Architecture Award in the Urban Design category.
