PILA group® is supplying their rugby league goal posts for installation at the iconic MCG stadium.
Having hosted the Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games as well as Grand Finals and Test Series, the MCG is not just the ultimate sporting venue in Australia, but also one of the most iconic stadiums in the world.
Overhauled last in 2004 ahead of the 2006 Commonwealth Games, the MCG will soon begin a month-long project of resurfacing, which operations manager Tony Gordon explains is crucial to ensuring the playing surface is among the best in the world. Around 150 truckloads of turf will be needed to cover the 20,000sqm surface at a cost of $1.7 million.
As part of the resurfacing project and in preparation for the landmark return of State of Origin to the MCG in 2015, PILA is supplying their rugby league goal posts with a multi-sport conversion kit.
Working closely with turf company HG Sports Turf, PILA will install the goals while ensuring the posts’ bases are customised to fit existing footings. PILA’s soccer goal posts are already part of the MCG’s arsenal for world class sport to be played at the stadium; with the conversion kit the MCG will be equipped for AFL, rugby union and rugby league games as well.
