When purchasing a new portable stage, choosing the right surface for your requirements is a must for the best stage outcomes. While carpet and timber are the most popular choices, there are a range of surface options available, so taking the time to compare materials and understand your unique needs before you buy is a smart move.
To save you time, in this article we share the top surface options for a portable stage, comparing their pros, cons and standout features to help you find the ideal fit.
Stage surface option #1: Carpet
Carpet is the most popular surface choice for our QUATTRO Portable Stage, and when you look at the key features, it’s easy to see why. Our carpet stage surface is manufactured using New Zealand-made marine carpet, which is very high quality and hardwearing. In fact, we commonly see our stages still looking like new long after they were purchased, even after more than 10 years of regular use!
A carpet surface is an extremely durable and attractive option, plus it also offers another great benefit in its ability to reduce noise. Carpet flooring is a lot quieter than timber, and for situations where your stage is used for presentations or similar events where people are walking across the stage frequently, a carpet stage is likely your best bet.
Stage surface option #2: Timber
When you think of a traditional stage, you probably visualise it as having a natural timber deck flooring, and this is another stage surface that is long lasting and looks attractive in any setting. We use a plywood deck for all our stage systems, with a choice of timber finishes allowing you to customise your stage to suit.
Your chosen timber is stained in either black or brown, before it is finished with an application of tough polyurethane clear coat over the top. This ensures your surface looks good for longer, and makes maintenance a breeze. A timber deck stage is a fantastic option for schools that specialise in dance classes, as the smooth polished finish creates the ideal surface for performers to move easily and perform at their best.
Stage surface option #3: Outdoor
If your stage will be used outdoors, you need a hardwearing surface that can withstand occasional exposure to the elements. We suggest Hexa plywood decks for this purpose, as they feature excellent anti-slip properties – in fact, this is the same product that many scaffold manufacturers use on their systems.
The Hexa decks are manufactured from marine-grade plywood internally with an exterior grade glue, plus the edges are sealed with acrylic paint to ensure that the plywood will last as long as possible, even after it has been exposed to the weather.
Stage surface option #4: Custom
If you require something unique, we also offer a custom option that allows you to tailor your stage exactly to your needs. For example, this can mean using the same carpet you have in the room where you are planning to place your stage, providing visual consistency for a seamless look. This option has been commonly utilised in churches and function centres where the portable stage is required to blend in with the space without feeling like an add-on. In addition, the carpet can also be applied to any of the vertical riser infill sections to fully customise the look.
As well as offering a broad selection of custom carpet choices, we also provide custom surface options in a range of other materials, including engineered timber flooring overlays, Karndean vinyl flooring, clear and coloured Perspex, and many more.
