WAVE BLADES are Supawood’s newest development, an exciting proprietary lining system which makes creating sculptured timber blade features affordable, simple to specify and easy to install. With WAVE BLADES you can now release your creativity!

The look of free-flowing timber blade features is a fast growing interior design trend. However, many designers shy away from these unique lineaments in their project because traditionally it involved custom joinery which was laborious to document and very expensive to achieve.

SUPAWOOD have made planning and accomplishing this type of ceiling or wall simple by creating a proprietary system which allows for choices of materials to suit multiple price points. SUPAWOOD will guide you through the whole design process and then manufacture custom profile blades to the exact layout in your design. With this support and advice you can achieve exactly the effect you visualise.

To minimise time on site and make easy installation possible by any approved partition contractor, blades are delivered pre-finished with concealed labelling to identifying their unique location and packed by area.
WAVE BLADES are available in a full range of finishes including natural timber veneers, concept veneers, Birch plywood and any solid colour. There is a look to suit any décor theme and colour scheme. Acoustic, green and fire retardant options are also available.
Originally this dynamic product was conceived for the fit-out of the staff break-out areas of Water Corporation’s HQ at Balcatta (pictured). In this project the designers were asked to create a visually stimulating workplace environment so they devised a unique concept for sculptured rippling water effects on the ceilings to reflect the client’s core water delivery business.

Supawood devise an economical solution for configuring and manufacturing the wooden blades and designed a simple concealed fixing system. In total 207 different shapes and 778 blades were made from Birch plywood and given a clear finish. Every blade had concealed labelling, was notched to fit together and then packed and marked by area for easy identification in the installation sequence.

Additionally lighting has been cleverly integrated to illuminate the effects and acoustic boarding used above the blades to address noise reverberation.

The total refurbishment of 50 William St in Perth’s CBD is another project where WAVE BLADES have achieved the designer’s unique concept without jeopardizing the budget. Here SUPAWOOD proposed subtle changes to the concept to reduce cost without compromising the design intent. By American Oak Veneer on FR MDF along with SUPAFINISH Black acoustic perforated backing panels they were able to achieve the fire retardant requirements as well as address noise reverberation.

This is now an attractive contemporary reception on lift lobby area the St George's Anglican Grammar School, Western Australia’s first high rise city school campus.

Another very different project which uses WAVE BLADES over a vast area of ceiling is the IGA Romeo’s stunning new food hall at the MLC Centre in Sydney’s.

Here the main food hall ceiling has been lined with suspended timber WAVE BLADES which curve up and down to follow and disguise the complex constraints of the concrete ceiling overhead. By using the blades at different levels and directions the ceiling defines the main areas of the store. Lighting and other services are hidden by or integrated between the blades which have been finished in an Oak laminate RNO.

The development and use of WAVE BLADES backed by SUPAWOOD’s design and construct service has enabled all these projects to stand out as truely unique, something achieved without jepodising the original design intent or blowing budget.
