Urban Fountains and Furniture supplied a custom range of stylish picnic tables and chairs for the recreation area at St Ursula’s College in Yeppoon, QLD.
Designer Jill Owen-Catt from Bold Architecture approached Urban to design and manufacture custom seating and picnic tables for the application. Having worked with Urban on previous projects, Jill knew that they would be the best company to offer realistic design and fabrication input, while still respecting her original design concepts and vision for the project.
The design brief was for a very strong, durable, yet stylish suite of picnic tables and chairs with minimalist footing design. Seating was required on all four sides and mounted in-ground on single strut legs with special consideration given to dismantling for ease of shipping and installation.
Urban worked closely with Jill, offering up to four different table/seating styles that met the brief. After close consultation between the client, architect and Urban, the final design was realised with some minor design tweaks to match the client’s requirements.
The table frame and seating were manufactured from robust RHS with high quality Pacific Jarrah chosen for the hardwood component. The entire framework was hot dipped galvanised and the timber was treated with high quality penetrative oil.
With Urban’s assistance, Jill was able to achieve a stunning and stylish minimalist picnic table and seating combination that is low maintenance, functional and very durable, and will be enjoyed by the students for many years to come.
