The 2016 Urbanline Architectural Conference was recently organised at the Sandstone Point Hotel on Bribie Island, drawing architects, builders, designers and property developers from around the country.
Participants in the conference were given an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Urbanline’s materials, helping them better understand production processes, warranties and certifications. Attendees gained better technical insight as well as clearer understanding of materials and choices for modern construction.
The conference was held at the Sandstone Point Hotel where the use of timber in the innovative architecture reflected the site’s waterfront location and old timber jetty. Three Urbanline solutions were used in its build: Elements Vulcan + Newport Hector cladding were used for the facade, entrances and interior; Western Red Cedar VJ Secret Nail Profile, an economical solid timber lining was whitewashed to tone down its varying colours and reflect a subtle, coastal hue; and Smoked Oak Millboard composite decking was used throughout the outdoor dining areas and for built-in seating, balustrading, and table-tops exposed to weather.
Keynote speakers
Two conference presentations at the event provided clarity and confidence around building certifications, especially with regard to acoustic, fire and smoke regulations and standards.
Acoustic ratings presented by Stephen Pugh, Director, ASK Acoustics & Air Quality covered important acoustic regulations and how composites effectively met them as well as fascinating concepts such as how noise behaved in different spaces; sound vs power vs loudness; and transmission vs reverberation.
Fire ratings by Benjamin Hughes Brown, CertMark Director offered a detailed overview of fire regulations covering wall systems, internal linings and external attachments. Benjamin also shared details of the compliance testing completed on Urbanline’s own EuroClad and Duroclad products.
Products showcase
The 2016 Urbanline Architectural Conference also saw leading suppliers from around the world showcasing their products in person, providing insight into emerging trends, product quality, warranties and case studies for a truly global perspective.
