Electric vehicles are becoming a constant on our roads. Charging infrastructure has become an amenity at many new multi-residential builds and the chargers at service stations and in communal car parks are quickly becoming the norm.
Despite this, there are still many questions associated with what our built environment looks like as the uptake of electric vehicles continues to increase. Is Australia ready for the uptake? Can architects, designers, developers, automotive experts and other people assist in getting us to where we need to be?
2022 Sustainability Summit
The Sustainability Summit session, ‘How Electric Vehicles Will Impact Both Design & Sustainability In The Built Environment,’ will discuss the transformative influence of EVs in full. With one in six Australian cars estimated to be electric in 2028, discussion will centre on the subsequent impact on urban development and infrastructure.
The session will touch on EV charging solutions for detached and semi-detached homes to boost appeal for potential vehicle owners, which will in turn influence urban planning and development strategies.
A crucial focal point of the session is the necessity to redesign various aspects of cities historically tailored to internal combustion engine usage. This encompasses reimagining roads, parking spaces, and petrol stations to suit the needs of the burgeoning EV market.
The panel, moderated by Tone Wheeler from Environa, features experts including Hussein Dia from Swinburne University of Technology, Arup’s Tessa Knox-Grant, Samantha Johnson from Polestar, and Christopher Cormack from JLL. The collective expertise of the panel will delve into the complexities and potentials inherent in the intersection of electric vehicles, sustainability, and the design of our built environment.
