Integration is everything. For projects, new and existing, it's about ensuring a building or structure fits seamlessly into its environment. When it comes to the inner workings of said buildings, it’s of extreme importance that the elements and materials of the building are well integrated, and function to the best of their abilities.
With the whirlwind evolution of technology always in full swing, we are constantly being gifted with new devices that aid the functionality of a building. The Smart Building Ideas category at the Sustainability Awards celebrates these devices, and the way they are implemented within projects.
The category calls on designers to submit a building or part thereof that uses smart design and/or a range of automated processes to automatically control the building’s operations including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, lighting, security and other systems in order to help improve asset reliability, performance, reduce energy use and minimise the total environmental impact of building.
All projects in this category will provide a model for solving a range of current sustainable issues faced by our city, while providing a functional and serviceable amenity. Projects submitted under the Smart Building category will demonstrate a strategy to building automation – with a particular focus on innovative ways of approaching existing building automation challenges and their impact on sustainability. A demonstrable improvement to previous sustainability outcomes will need to be supported by data-related to building performance.
The key aspects considered by the Sustainability Awards include: Automation technology, relevance to context, empathetic to user considerations, high levels of research into use of resources and translatable concepts.
