The interior of a space is crucial to ensuring a building is fit for purpose. There are many considerations that must be made when devising an interior, in terms of how occupants of the space will utilise it, as well as aesthetic and brand, when it comes to commercial developments.

For the first time in its illustrious history, the Sustainability Awards has a new category up for grabs: Interior Design. It will open up a wealth of opportunity to interior designers who have been unable to throw their hats into the ring at the award ceremony, that have sustainability front of mind when curating the materials and furniture pieces of an interior.

The category criteria asks for a renovation or fit-out of the interior of an existing building where the sustainable design is involved with such factors as determining the efficient and effective use of space, selecting construction materials that offer low environmental impact and lowering pollution, waste, and the lowering of the overall energy consumption.
