The Brisbane skyline has been forever transformed by the construction of One One One Eagle Street, an iconic skyscraper that not only redefines the city's landscape but also sets a new benchmark for sustainable design in large-scale commercial developments.

Conceived by the internationally acclaimed practice BVN and brought to life by General Property Trust, the striking 54-level development emerges from Brisbane’s vibrant riverfront precinct; setting a powerful example of harmonious integration of environmental consciousness, architectural brilliance, and connection to the city's natural surroundings.

GPT's first carbon-neutral premium office building

Drawing inspiration from the natural world, the building’s plant-like facade is an imaginative representation of the project’s fundamental commitment to sustainability. The architectural form, influenced by an algorithm mimicking plant growing towards sunlight, exemplifies the project's holistic approach to minimising environmental impact through every facet of design.

In fact, One One One Eagle Street was the first amongst the elite group of GPT Group premium office buildings to achieve the prestigious Carbon Neutral Building Certification under the combined NABERS and Climate Active pathway, and in alignment with the international Greenhouse Gas Protocol. This remarkable accomplishment is a direct result of its meticulous design, which prioritises energy and water efficiency, ensuring long-term cost savings and a reduced environmental footprint.

SAS International: Elevating sustainability and design

Integral to the project's success is the integration of SAS International's high-performing SAS750 Vertiline System, a visually impactful, premium linear ceiling product offering full access and service integration.

“As the first metal ceiling manufacturer to achieve Cradle to Cradle Certified® Bronze (Version 4.0), we were pleased to be chosen to provide the metal ceiling solution for the project,” says Craig Penton, SAS General Manager. “The certification covers not only the majority of the company’s products, but also the manufacturing and procurement processes. We are working hard on sustainability by reducing our impact on the environment, and assisting in meeting the global net zero targets.”

SAS International’s sustainability ambitions made it the ideal choice for the One One One Eagle Street project, and the bespoke SAS750 Vertiline System was specified all throughout the main entrance, the hallways and the meeting rooms.

The manufacturer’s signature system has been growing in popularity in the Australian market – and for good reason. The tubular system is made with aluminium, an inherently strong, durable and recyclable metal, which is also backed by an impressive 25-year warranty, further underscoring its sustainable design – durable products reduce the need for replacements, conserving resources and reducing waste.

On top of the system’s enduring characteristics, the SAS750 fuses an exceptional quality of materials, with high-performing functionality and versatile aesthetic potential. This excellent combination empowers designers to bring even the most dynamic visions to life – the metal ceiling can be used to generate curves and waves, while its practicality, and a selection of horizontal and vertical mounting options, ensures seamless integration with the building's overall aesthetic.

The system also boasts advanced acoustic properties, contributing to creating comfortable environments that foster clear communication, productivity and efficiency. It also contributes to improved indoor environmental quality.

It is a building that not only serves its occupants but also contributes to a healthier planet, demonstrating that environmental responsibility, inspired design and economic success can go hand in hand. By incorporating sustainable materials like the SAS750 ceiling system, One One One Eagle Street sets a new standard for environmentally conscious construction in Australia and demonstrates that large commercial developments can soar to new heights when sustainability remains at the heart of the design.
