Pescatore Constructions, Victoria’s oldest sewer and drainage contractor, is a successful business that has gone from strength to strength with support from their fleet of reliable Kobelco excavators.
Brothers Lou and Micheal Bevilacqua celebrated the 50th anniversary of Pescatore Constructions in 2011. Founded by their grandfather, Michele Pescatore, the business has expanded considerably since the brothers took over the company almost 30 years ago.
Micheal, the construction and logistics manager, says the business is rapidly expanding and has some great momentum. The company has recently purchased a number of new large machines to meet new demand for their services. Two of the new machines are Kobelco SK500LC-9s, fitted with Rammer hydraulic hammers. The 48-tonne SK500LC-9 features the new ECO-mode function, which when engaged, reduces fuel consumption by up to 21 per cent.
This fuel-saving feature, which would dramatically reduce their operating costs, motivated Micheal to introduce the SK500LC-9s into the fleet.
The SK500LC-9 also has a ROPS low-vibration cab with high suspension mounts filled with silicone oil that reduce heavy vibration, when travelling and hammering. Micheal explained that they usually work on ground, which is about 60 per cent rock and 40 per cent clay. The rock work is hard on the machines, and strong gear is required to withstand the vibration.
However, the SK500LC-9’s ROPS low-vibration cab, in combination with the high performance hydraulic flow on the machine, allows their operators to work at an extremely productive rate in a safe and comfortable environment.
Pescatore Constructions has 10 Kobelco machines in their fleet and has recently bought another 35-tonne Kobelco 350LC-8 from Victorian Kobelco dealer Melbourne Tractors for use in trenching, rock breaking and backfilling works.
A regular servicing schedule is maintained for the Pescatore fleet, resulting in minimal downtime, and a more economical and profitable operation for the brothers. Micheal added that they enjoyed a wonderful relationship with both Melbourne Tractors and Kobelco.
