SBS Group was engaged to supply a simple, fast and accurate solution to achieve a challenging 3D architectural framing requirement at the Penguin Parade Visitor Centre in Summerlands, Phillip Island, VIC.
Designed by architecture firm Terroir and built by Kane Constructions, the Penguin Parade Visitor Centre project required custom architectural framing solutions to achieve the unique 3D architectural features, while adhering to the tight construction program.
With speed and accuracy critical to the success of the project, customised prefabricated framing solutions were provided to decrease labour and time spent on site compared to a traditional stick build method.
Steel frames were detailed in-house and fabricated to millimetre-tight tolerances, allowing linings to be directly fixed to the framing members and at the valleys and points. SBS Group’s 3D model allowed the contractor ease of installation for the irregular frames.
Frames were manufactured from high strength yet lightweight steel for easier handling, and reduced risk and exposure on site without compromising structural integrity.
Set-out plans were supplied, allowing the modules to be installed in the exact positions once on site.
SBS supplied a total of 2,897 L/M of steel framing for the project.
