What is fibre cement?

Fibre cement is a composite building material made from a combination of Portland cement, cellulose pulp, sand, and water.

Cellulose fibres are usually sourced from wood pulp or plant fibres such as hemp or sisal. The fibres are mixed with cement and sand to create a slurry, which is then pressed and moulded into the desired shape, such as planks, sheets, or tiles. Once formed, the fibre cement is cured in a high-pressure steam autoclave to strengthen it and improve its durability.

The resulting material is strong, lightweight, and resistant to fire, moisture, and insects, making it a popular choice for various building applications, including indoor pools, medical centres and sports halls.

What is fibre cement used for?

Fibre cement is a fantastic material for acoustic panels because it is durable, low-maintenance, versatile, eco-friendly, cost-effective, and fire-resistant.

Decor Systems products such as DecorLux and DecorSlot are made from fibre cement and available in several profiles to suit any application.

One of the primary benefits of using fibre cement acoustic products is their versatility. Fibre cement is a very strong and versatile material suitable for use in a variety of applications, including classrooms, indoor swimming pools, office spaces, and medical facilities. Fibre cement acoustic linings are also resistant to fire, moisture, and pests, making them durable and long-lasting.

Once perforated and paired with an acoustic lining, our range of fibre cement panels can improve speech intelligibility, especially in spaces such as conference rooms, classrooms, and offices where it is essential that people can communicate clearly and effectively.

In addition, fibre cement is flexible when it comes to finishes. We can perforate our fibre cement with many different patterns, and they can be left raw or finished with a printed timber look, such as with The Bushfire Centre of Excellence, where a printed Hoop Pine finish was used to match the interior natural timber veneer.

Fibre cement acoustic linings are an excellent solution for controlling noise in modern spaces. The material's versatility allows for a variety of applications, while its durability, low maintenance, and eco-friendly properties make it a cost-effective choice over time.
