North Sydney Public School has undergone a transformative $28.8 million upgrade, delivering state-of-the-art facilities to enhance the educational experience for students, staff, and the wider community. This redevelopment includes 19 flexible learning spaces, a modern administration area, a cutting-edge library, and a large, multifunctional hall. Additional enhancements include a covered outdoor learning area, upgraded student amenities, and a renovated canteen, all thoughtfully designed to create a dynamic and inspiring environment for learning and engagement.
The project, designed by Fulton Trotter and constructed by Taylor Construction, prioritises comfort, wellbeing, and effective learning. Recognising the profound impact of the built environment on educational outcomes, the design integrates advanced acoustic solutions to address critical elements such as sound insulation, speech intelligibility, and sustainability.
Decor Systems played an integral role in achieving these goals, providing a range of high-performing, aesthetically striking, and environmentally sustainable acoustic solutions tailored to the school’s diverse needs. At the school’s entrance, DecorLux finished in Wombat Forest 2PP panels were used to minimise noise in high-traffic outdoor areas. With an NRC of up to 0.90, these perforated fibre cement panels are non-combustible, moisture-resistant, and GECA-certified, making them ideal for the project’s sustainability objectives.
Vogl perforated plasterboard provided the perfect solution for managing noise in the learning spaces
Inside the classrooms, Vogl perforated plasterboard provided the perfect solution for managing noise in adaptable, flexible learning spaces. These spaces, designed to accommodate various teaching methods, benefit greatly from Vogl’s crack-resistant technology and have an NRC rating of 0.85.
Stocked locally in the Decor Systems warehouse in Sydney, Vogl was readily available for this project, meeting project timelines without delay. With both an EPD and GECA certification, Vogl aligns with the project’s environmental and performance standards.
DecorEagle & DecorStyle finished in Smartlook Tasmanian Oak
In the large hall, the combination of DecorEagle and DecorStyle, finished in Smartlook Tasmanian Oak, introduced a contemporary linear aesthetic while achieving an NRC rating of 0.75. Both products are FSC® and GECA certified and can meet Group 1 fire ratings depending on the chosen finish, ensuring a balance of safety, sustainability, and acoustic performance.
DecorSlat Max finished in Smartlook American Oak
Above the reception area, DecorSlat Max timber slats finished in Smartlook American Oak added architectural versatility while delivering exceptional acoustic performance. With an NRC of 0.90 when paired with acoustic backing, these slats were installed efficiently using fixing cleats, making them a perfect solution for high-traffic areas.
This ambitious upgrade demonstrates a commitment to creating a forward-thinking learning environment. With Decor Systems’ innovative acoustic solutions seamlessly integrated throughout the spaces, North Sydney Public School provides facilities that promote comfort, enhance wellbeing, and support exceptional learning outcomes for current and future generations.
