Metecno PIR is part of the Australian Bondor Metecno Group. Metecno roofing products ensured speed of installation during a redevelopment project at the RSEA Park, the spiritual home of St Kilda Football Club in Moorabbin, Victoria. The 146-year-old St Kilda Football Club, nicknamed the ‘Saints’, is a foundation member of the Victorian Football League (VFL) established in 1897.
The training and administration headquarters at the RSEA Park where the club has been based since 1965 went through a two-stage, $30 million redevelopment in 2018. MetecnoPIR's widely adopted MetecnoSpan insulated roofing was specified for the facility’s 5000-square-metre roof and insulated box gutters.
The challenging project schedule demanded completion before the 2019 football season, necessitating the roof and gutter systems to be installed quickly by the team at Professional Plumbing Contractors (PPC).
MetecnoPIR's insulated PIR core roofing MetecnoSpan was specified for the project for several reasons including speed of installation, short manufacturing lead times from Melbourne, comprehensive warranties and ability to meet the high thermal performance requirements for both R values and air leakage testing.
Integrating the roof, insulation and prefinished ceiling in a single product, the long spanning MetecnoSpan delivered an all-in-one solution that reduced labour and installation time, PPC project manager Cameron Pryde explained. Traditional built-up roof systems consisting of multiple layers of roof sheeting, and bulk insulation on a foil and mesh ceiling cannot achieve these efficiencies.
MetecnoSpan’s extremely high R5.0 thermal rating also helped achieve the building’s thermal requirements.
“Locally made long roof panel lengths were also a great benefit as PPC used up to 20m roof panels, which enabled us to install more square metres per day, helping us meet the tight installation timeline,” he added.
The building’s thermal performance requirements needed the traditional box gutters to be significantly insulated. Therefore, the gutters were fabricated locally using the MetecnoPanel insulated box gutter system, which eliminated the need for heat welding and allowed speedy installation of long 12.5m lengths. The interface between the gutters and the roof end lapping system created an airtight seal eliminating the potential issue of thermal leakage.
MetecnoPIR's MetecnoSpan and MetecnoPanel products passed the building’s air testing following installation.
