Corner Block, a 3,000-square-metre commercial development on the Gold Coast is the world’s first building to meet Passive House, Green Star and WELL standards.
Constructed by building and development agency Base Haus, the $4 million commercial building was designed as the new benchmark for sustainable workspaces, keeping in mind the importance of key considerations in modern construction such as environmental sustainability, energy efficiency, ethical resourcing and occupant wellbeing.
Eight commercial tenancies ranging in size from 112 – 886 square metres occupy two-thirds of the built-up space at Corner Block.
The green credentials achieved by the building are primarily attributed to the use of MetecnoSpan insulated roofing as well as the involvement of the highly responsive Metecno PIR team.
MetecnoPIR's MetecnoSpan insulated panelling is suitable for both interior and exterior roofing applications. Additionally, the material’s low VOC finish contributed significantly towards achieving the high sustainability and healthy building standards required for the project’s three target certifications.
Being a highly affordable product compared to conventional roofing systems, MetecnoSpan reduced the overall cost of the project. The use of MetecnoSpan also eliminated the need for a suspended ceiling thanks to the interior finishing on the panels, further reducing the project cost as well as the number of tradesmen required onsite.
