Utilising BINQ’s thermally-efficient windows and doors, the homes achieve exceptional airtightness, ensuring sustainability and comfort while maintaining aesthetic and budget considerations.
This duplex home in Mentone, Victoria, combines modern design with high energy efficiency, featuring white and timber finishes. Designed by Altereco Design and built by Sanctum Homes, it aims to provide a healthy, comfortable living environment while meeting a high performance standard with 7.4 and 7.7 energy star ratings.
The main challenge was ensuring the building envelope’s airtightness, particularly around the doors and windows, to meet Passive House standards. Special attention was given to selecting windows and doors that would balance performance, budget, and aesthetics. The homes' unique "kangaroo and joey" design maximizes natural light and passive solar orientation.
BINQ’s thermally-efficient window and door systems offered the ideal solution, providing airtight, insulated, and aesthetically pleasing features. The use of uPVC windows and Lift and Slide Doors optimized energy efficiency and natural light, contributing to the homes’ security and sustainability. Final blower door tests confirmed the exceptional airtightness and energy efficiency of the duplexes.
