Case study: Fitzroy House, Fitzroy, VIC

Fitzroy House, located in Melbourne’s cultural Fitzroy district, is a seven-story residential development designed by JCBA. The project features 34 high-end apartments that blend modern architecture with an adjoining heritage red-brick building. The design focuses on creating a sustainable, energy-efficient environment that balances contemporary aesthetics with historical preservation.

The challenge was to find a shading solution that would provide comfort and energy efficiency while complementing the building's modern design. The penthouse levels, in particular, needed a solution to maintain visibility while offering privacy and minimising heat exposure.

Warema’s E80 A6 S external venetian blinds provided the ideal solution. The blinds’ motorized system, sleek white finish, and ability to be fully concealed in a pelmet helped maintain the building’s aesthetic while offering shading and privacy. The integration of a weather station and handheld remotes allowed residents to control the blinds based on weather conditions, enhancing comfort and energy efficiency.

The combination of the external venetian blinds, expert service from Shade Factor, and thoughtful design resulted in a functional and visually appealing solution, making Fitzroy House a successful example of modern design that respects historical architecture while prioritising sustainability.
