Case study: Pearl Beach View House, Central Coast, NSW

Pearl Beach View House, located on the NSW Central Coast, exemplifies a seamless blend of design and functionality, carefully integrated into the surrounding landscape. Designed by Osmond McLeod Architects, the home sits on a hillside, capturing stunning ocean views despite not being directly on the waterfront. The exterior features naturally weathered hardwood and Shou Sugi Ban, a traditional Japanese wood preservation technique, to echo the colors and textures of the coastal environment. The design also includes a rooftop spa that offers panoramic views, allowing residents to fully immerse themselves in the beauty of the coastline.

The architectural challenge was to maximise the ocean vistas while ensuring privacy from neighbouring properties, which were positioned between the home and the sea. The design had to strike a balance between capturing expansive views and obscuring less desirable features. To overcome these challenges, the architects worked closely with AVS Windows & Doors to incorporate large, expansive glazing elements that would dissolve the boundaries between the indoor living spaces and the outdoors, creating the illusion of being directly on the beachfront.

To bring this vision to life, oversized Series 704 SlideMASTER™ Sliding Doors were installed, which can extend up to 9 meters and slide into wall cavities, providing unobstructed views and promoting natural ventilation. The FlowTHRU Pro™Drain system ensures a seamless transition between interior and exterior spaces, while Series 400 CentreGLAZE™ windows allow abundant natural light to flood the home. These custom glazing solutions successfully transformed the house into a coastal retreat that blends modern design with the natural beauty of its environment, demonstrating the power of innovative architectural solutions and expert collaboration.
