Case Study: W Sydney Hotel, Darling Harbour, Sydney

W Sydney Hotel, located in Darling Harbour, is an architectural gem designed by Hassell, featuring fluid, organic forms that connect the city’s dynamic energy with its waterfront setting. Opened in 2023, the hotel blends creativity and luxury through its nearly 600 guest rooms, rooftop bar, infinity pool, and event spaces. The hotel's innovative design required an equally imaginative interior, leading to the collaboration with Bowler James Brindley (BJB) to create a vibrant and engaging guest experience inspired by Sydney’s energising spirit.

BJB’s "Future Noir" concept, with its bold mix of shadows, textures, and immersive installations, required wall coverings that could meet both creative and practical needs. The challenge was to find materials that offered impressive digital printing, superior color rendering, and long-lasting durability while aligning with the hotel’s sustainability goals. This led the design team to Ricky Richards and their Dreamscape wall coverings, which met all criteria by offering a high-performance, eco-friendly solution.

Dreamscape wall coverings, with their vibrant custom prints and low-VOC vinyl, played a pivotal role in realising BJB’s vision for W Sydney. The wall coverings transformed guest rooms with stunning designs featuring Australia’s flora and fauna, while ensuring exceptional indoor air quality and environmental responsibility. With the inclusion of Dreamscape Artist Canvas in the Ribbon Apartments, the hotel’s interior design was elevated, blending artistry and sustainability. The result is a remarkable fusion of design, performance, and eco-consciousness that enhances W Sydney’s position as a new cultural landmark in Sydney.
