Wool + Hay Architects required an innovative solution to be able to divide IC’s large format meeting space into two, acoustically controlled separate meeting areas, while at the same time allowing maximum light transfer from the outdoors, creating an open, airy feeling.
Accordingly, Bildspec was chosen by fitout specialist Scope Projects to install both a Konnect Double Glazed and a Series 100 solid operable wall at IC’s Surry Hills, Sydney office in a T-intersecting format, thus allowing light transfer through the glass wall and creating the potential divide between meeting rooms with the solid wall.
Apart from creating a flexible space, operable walls are movable acoustic walls, which are able to greatly reduce a significant amount of external noise from passing through the operable wall into each of the divided spaces. This reduction of sound is measured in Rw (Weighted Sound Reduction Index). Different combinations of top/bottom seals and board constructions are crucial in the wall’s ability to overcome sound transmission issues. The Konnect and Series 100 solid walls installed for IC have Rw ratings of 48 and 49 respectively, sufficiently high enough to achieve the desired level of privacy.
