Bildspec recently installed two operable walls at Marist Sisters' College, an independent Roman Catholic single-sex secondary day school for girls located in Woolwich, a Lower North Shore suburb of Sydney.
The two parallel 4-metre high operable walls were installed at the front of the school’s 120-seat working drama theatre. This theatre provides sound and lighting for student performances and showcases, but also doubles as a modern dance studio with Tarkett flooring, ballet barres and mirrors.
The folding doors installed at the theatre have multiple functions. Firstly, they allow the school to divide the large dance studio space into two smaller dance studios while preserving the acoustic integrity of each space. Secondly, it accommodates the enlargement or reduction of the stage performance area in the theatre, depending on the nature of the particular performance production.
The folding doors stack sideways into recessed stack bays making them completely inconspicuous when not in use, and allowing students to hone their skills and maximise the space’s performance potential when required.
