Izakaya Michi, a Japanese restaurant located in the heart of Sydney’s CBD, features a unique timber interior to create a timeless yet traditional feel.
Designed by Michiru Design Studio in collaboration with Toland Architects, Izakaya Michi’s interiors combine timber look battens from Covet’s Ever Art Wood range with natural timber. Resembling a makisu or bamboo sushi mat, the battens line the interior of the restaurant.
Michiru Design Studio utilised Ever Art Wood timber look Koshi battens as a feature on the restaurant’s ceiling. Realistic enough to be used adjacent to real timber, the aluminium battens seamlessly transition into the natural timber dowels down the walls and into the seating areas.
The space was shortlisted in the Hospitality Category for the Interior Design Awards (Australia) in 2019.
