Cubis Systems was approached to provide an underground network access solution for asset protection at the Sleeman Sports Centre, one of Queensland’s premier sporting venues.

Part of a water meter installation for the sports centre’s water infrastructure, the project needed an access pit solution with minimum Class B load rating (AS3996) that could accommodate the existing systems and be installed within the restricted timeframe.

Due to the strict timeframe for installation of the new flow meter equipment and access pit system, the contractor required an efficient and reliable alternative to the traditional cast in-situ concrete option. Having previously worked together on successful projects, the contractor approached Cubis for a specialised, custom-engineered solution to meet their requirements.

STAKKAbox ULTIMA Connect access pits

The modular and lightweight structure of the STAKKAbox ULTIMA Connect access pit system combined with its onsite modification capabilities provided the perfect solution for the project.

The STAKKAbox access pit system was built around the existing 150mm water pipe buried at approximately 1300mm below ground. With time constraints being a key consideration throughout this project, the full pit system was installed within just one day, including excavation, cutting of the pipe and installation of the new flow water meter, assembly of the ULTIMA Connect pit components and backfilling. As the final step, the placement of Cubis’ precast concrete roof slab and cover was completed along with the landscaping.

The versatile modification capabilities enabled by the STAKKAbox modular system allowed the ULTIMA Connect pit to be built over and around the existing pipework without the need for specialised tooling or builders.

Only standard battery-powered and handheld tools, including a reciprocating saw and rubber mallet were required to complete all the necessary modifications onsite. This ensured rapid installation of the new flow meter without any delay, resulting in a very satisfied client.
