Godfrey Hirst Australia supplied a selection of carpet tiles in vibrant colours for the new Junior Learning Centre at the Amsleigh Park Primary School in Oakleigh East, VIC.
Amsleigh Park Primary, which has a population of 330 students, opened a new Junior Learning Centre in 2018, with the architecturally designed learning facility offering students an outstanding educational environment.
As Project Architects, Baldasso Cortese banked on their exceptional experience in education architecture to design the new learning centre. Featuring eight spacious areas designed to draw in natural light, the facility also offers covered outdoor learning spaces, a reading intervention zone and several support spaces for students and staff.
Educational design faces the constant challenge to create spaces that are not only adaptable but also have the capacity to excite and inspire students as well as teachers. Many studies have revealed the beneficial impact of colour on memory, performance and visual sense in order to achieve a positive response towards learning.
Carpet tiles from Godfrey Hirst’s Mohawk Group brand were specified for the learning centre and installed by JJ Carpets. Pop Icon and Off The Wall from the range were mixed and matched to create a vibrant environment. Various colours have been used in different learning spaces, with Pop Icon and Off The Wall featuring a yellow and pink highlight tile across the various educational spaces to create a playful classroom atmosphere.
Amsleigh Park Primary School received the 2019 Victorian School Design Award for Best School Project between $5 and $10 million.
