South Australian architecture and construction firm, Contech chose a healthy material palette for the new Repromed Fertility Clinic in Dulwich, SA.
Repromed is a leading national fertility clinic offering a comprehensive suite of fertility treatment options, personalised care and support. Selected to fit out their new purpose-built facility, Contech sought the best in beautiful, practical and functional healthcare flooring and GH Commercial had just what they needed.
With a reputation for immersive and collaborative design solutions, the firm actively engages with clients to conceptualise and deliver on a range of outstanding residential and commercial developments.
Given the nature of the business at Repromed including medical procedures and preserving specimens, it was essential each building element utilised healthy building materials. Most materials had to be VOC-free, with any joinery painting or polyurethane finishes completed off-site, reducing potential air contaminants.
Just as importantly, the interior fitout needed to reflect Repromed’s focus on the emotional wellbeing of patients, clientele and staff members, serving to create a welcoming environment of calm and reassurance.
Flooring for Form and Function
A deceptively simple Nordic aesthetic, characterised by the liberal use of pale timber walls, panelled desks and room dividing screens, along with clean white surfaces and feature window glazing, was stunningly offset by two complementary flooring products creatively laid for strong visual appeal.
Landscape, a textured carpet tile in colour Obsidian, formed a base of striations and recessed blocks, reminiscent of a birds-eye cityscape, while Inscribe, a carpet plank in colour Pottery featuring a network of fine lines for a subtle craquelure effect, was used to create contrasting circular insets. This incorporation of organic design shapes acted to dispel the usual clinical atmosphere, evoking a sense of familiarity and comfort.
Simple to lay, with a choice of installation options, the practical pattern of Landscape disguises minor soiling, while single tiles can be easily removed and replaced. Both tiles and planks also provide excellent noise insulating properties, making them ideal for waiting and recovery rooms.
Landscape and Inscribe are rated Contract Extra Heavy Duty, their resilience against foot traffic ensuring the busy interiors retain their beautiful appearance for the long haul.
Healthier Products
Both carpet ranges are proudly Australian Made and certified Red List Free under the Living Future Institute of Australia’s stringent Declare program, meeting Contech’s brief to create a beautiful and healthy indoor environment. Produced on our Enviro Bac backing system, they are PVC, BPA and Phthlate free, and installed using our innovative FlexLok tab system. Odourless FlexLok is a fume-free, non-toxic, dry installation system, produced to virtually eliminate harmful VOCs.
Rethinking Healthcare Design
The case for patient ease and comfort as a measurable factor in faster recovery times has been well proven, giving architects and designers the freedom to go beyond the purely functional. Taking their cues from hospitality and residential design, healthcare environments are increasingly places of reassuring familiarity, incorporating materials intended to imbue a sense of calm and comfort. GH Commercial offers a range of healthcare flooring options specifically manufactured to meet the stringent requirements of patient care areas, without compromising on aesthetic appeal.
