GH Commercial worked with Beyond DV on an important project that aimed to provide a safe haven to vulnerable women in the community.
Beyond DV is a charity founded as a result of the lived experience of supporting a loved one dealing with domestic violence. The organisation has been recognised as filling a gap in existing government services, and today supports impacted women and children as they rebuild their lives.
As part of our Doing Better Together philosophy, we aim to make a difference where it counts.
A centre of hope
After a decade long partnership with Westfield Carindale Shopping Centre near Brisbane, centre manager Matt Powis reached out to GH Commercial to support a special project called Hope Hub.
Together with Beyond DV founder Carolyn Robinson, Matt wanted to fit out a secure area in the centre, designed to offer services to victims of domestic violence. The concealed space was created to be an easily accessible environment that doesn’t draw attention to women feeling at risk.
Hope Hub enables these women to access critical support services during routine visits to the shopping centre. The hub offers private spaces with services including tailored counselling, after-crisis support and legal advice by trained coordinators with links to the Queensland Police Service.
Laying the groundwork
To help create a warm, comfortable and quiet setting for the 230m² hub, carpet from our Lichen 1.5 Collection, which uses biophilic design, was installed to create a visually soothing space inspired by nature. The carpet tiles were used across private meeting rooms, seminar rooms, hallway spaces, an office and breakout area, plus a kids’ play space.
GH Commercial joins other organisations supporting the project including Harvey Norman who have supplied TVs for the hub, and Carpet Court in Stones Corner who have been installing our carpets in the centre for many years.
As well as providing a refuge, Hope Hub will continue to hold group awareness seminars, training and events. Plus, deliver assistance for other community crisis situations, including mental health, youth and elderly support services.
We’re immensely proud of the work Beyond DV and our partners have achieved for a community in need, and to have played our part in creating this safe space.
