Kennards Hire Lift & Shift supplied a 300-tonne spreader beam to a
roadway project site to help lift and place 39 concrete girders.
The multi-million dollar roadway project comprised of a new four-lane
road called the Outer Circulating Road built to help traffic circumvent the
Toowoomba CBD, and also included a major three-span bridge over the West and
East creeks.
Tutt Bryant Heavy Lift & Shift, a leading cranes and heavy haulage
company was contracted to transport and install the concrete girders for the
roadway. They required the new modular 300 tonne spreader beam from Kennards
Hire Lift & Shift to lift the girders into place.
Girders were previously lifted using slings at a 60-degree angle via
anchor points. However, many manufacturers today are reluctant to put holes or
ports in the girders.
The spreader beam is part of an extensive range of bars and beams
available for hire from Kennards Hire Lift & Shift in a 250kg to 300 tonne
range. With a maximum width of 26 metres, the new unit weighs 6,600kg when
fully assembled, excluding shackles or rigging gear.
Tutt Bryant Queensland State Manager, Trevor Haylott explained that the
modular design of the 300 tonne spreader beam from Kennards Hire Lift &
Shift was a major benefit during the operation because it provided great
flexibility and enabled them to reduce the length as needed and tailor it to
each individual girder.
The modular design and versatility make the 300
tonne spreader beam from Kennards Hire Lift & Shift ideally suited to a
range of lifting requirements and industries including mining and oil and gas
as well as major civil construction and infrastructure developments and
shipping ports.
