Lend Lease subsidiary company Abigroup has won a major contract to construct an additional northbound lane on the Mitchell Freeway between the Graham Farmer Freeway tunnel and Hutton Street for Main Roads WA.
The $31 million contract is part of a $57 million package of works being delivered by Western Australia's State Government to improve the efficiency and safety of Perth's CBD road network.
The addition of extra lanes in the Graham Farmer Freeway tunnel willhelp provide extra capacity via an alternative route for east-west CBD traffic and increase northbound capacity on the Mitchell Freeway.
According to Abigroup's General Manager for Western Australia, Maurice Dessauvagie, securing the Mitchell Freeway project highlights Abigroup's robust capability as a leading constructor of infrastructure in Western Australia.
In addition to completing the new Reid Highway interchanges at Alexander Drive and Mirrabooka Avenue for Main Roads WA, Abigroup is also working on an ongoing basis for the upkeep of the state and federal roads network in the Goldfields region.
The new road construction project will be delivered in two stages to minimise disruption to freeway traffic:
- Stage one will involve the construction of an additional northbound lane on the Mitchell Freeway between the Graham Farmer tunnel and Vincent Street and is expected to be complete in May 2013
- Stage two involves constructing an additional lane and the widening of three traffic bridges between Vincent street and Hutton Street and is due to be completed in December 2013
