A combination of two pastel shades has been declared the Pantone Colour of the Year 2016. For the first time ever, Pantone has named two shades, Serenity (pale blue) and Rose Quartz (light pink) as the colours of 2016.

With fashion designers and interior decorators already embracing the unique combination, National Tiles has compiled a simple guide for homeowners to blend these tranquil tones within their homes.

Pantone’s pastel pair Rose Quartz and Serenity create a balance between warm and cool tones, while reflecting a soothing sense of peace and wellbeing. Challenging the traditional perceptions of colour association, this combo takes a unilateral approach to colour trends.

Appealing in all textural finishes, from matte to metallic and glossy, these shades can be accentuated with greens and purples or browns and yellows along with splashes of silver or bold brights for a little extra impact.

Pick your palette

National Tiles suggests picking the warm or cool hue first based on one’s decor preference and then embracing the trend of painted feature walls in the main living spaces. These feature walls painted in the chosen Pantone shade can be subtly accentuated with the contrasting Pantone shade in the form of cushions, light fixtures, floral arrangements or wall art.

Themed tablecloths, glassware, ceramics and patterned fabrics are some of the other ways the 2016 Pantone shades can be blended in throughout the home. When used together, these colours create a relaxing ambiance, perfect for living spaces such as lounge rooms, bathrooms and bedrooms.
