An intumescent coating from the SC 900 Series by Nullifire was the product of choice for fire protection at the new Cultural & Sports Centre Building in St Patrick’s College, Shorncliffe.
The design by Bertoldi Architects called for most of the structural columns and beams to be exposed, creating a legal requirement for fire protection.
Following a discussion on the most suitable product from Nullifire’s intumescent coatings and their advantages over more traditional systems, Nullifire SC902 was selected as the product of choice, primarily because it offered a fast and rapid application system; it could achieve a high level of finish straight from the gun when applied by experienced applicators; it achieved the required FRL (Fire Rating Limit) at a lower cost than alternatives; and it offered superior impact resistance and high resistance levels to damage, expected within an education environment.
Nullifire intumescent coating systems have been used on several school projects including St Mary’s Ipswich, St Ursula’s Toowoomba, St Laurence’s South Brisbane, All Hallows Brisbane and Emmanuel Christian College.
