The QwickBuild system by Outdure met the architects’ specifications during the design of the podium areas at Logan Campbell Village in Auckland, New Zealand. A Ryman Healthcare retirement village project designed by Ryman’s in-house architects, the two large podium areas developed over an underground carpark included QwickBuild floating lawn bowls and a petanque court.
Since the project involved a large post-tension slab over an underground carpark, the architects sought a solution with low-height capabilities. QwickBuild’s versatility gave the architects more options than they had anticipated as they could easily integrate not just the tiles and turf areas but also the lawn bowls and petanque court.
A large part of the 1600m² project was constructed from loose supply materials, though the bowling green gutters were prefabricated by Outdure for ease and efficiency onsite.
The architects and quantity surveyors collaborated with the Outdure design team to maximise the usability of the space. A ‘floating floor system’ comprising of QwickBuild deck frames was built to support and integrate tiles and synthetic turf using hidden interlocking fastenings. Installation of lightweight planter boxes together with the low maintenance tiles and synthetic turf reduced ongoing maintenance costs.
