The Sky Garden at the 192 Central commercial development in Brisbane is a stunning subtropical rooftop space designed by Mode Design for the Japanese owners, Daisho Co Limited.
The Daisho building terrace was transformed into an urban oasis for the staff as well as for private functions, with the Sky Garden featuring raised observation decks to maximise views from the rooftop.
Key project challenges included integration with a pre-existing steel system, which required span distances of over 4.5m as well as incorporation of multiple surface finishes. Mode Design architects collaborated with the Outdure design team to maximise the usability of the space.
Several Outdure products were specified for the 810-square-metre Daisho rooftop space for various applications. QwickBuild was selected for its multi-surface integration capabilities combining decking and tiles. ResortDeck in colour Havana was selected for the viewing platforms, bench seating, stairs and ramps. A 180mm bearer was used to achieve spans in excess of 4.5m. Exterior tiles were installed in a two-tone combination using Haze and Oasis colours.
QwickBuild deck frames were used as structural support for all the flooring, bench seating, ramps, steps and viewing platforms. The deck frames were installed over the waterproof membrane on the rooftop.
The construction was managed by Cockram Construction and #1 Decks.
