With the rare insight into Kaleidescape R&D Rabone Systems has announced that a Blu-Ray player is on the cards for 2009.
Development for the Blue-Laser player has already begun and it is expected that the player will be released in 2009 with no release date confirmed at this stage.
The significant technology to be incorporated into the player will be support for the H.264 and VC-1 codecs in addition to the MPEG-2 which is currently supported by all Kaleidescape players.
The new codec support will provide both HD and SD content to be played from other sources in the future, including the internet.
More specification details like 1080p/24 and DTS-HD 7.1 will be available once the player has been released.
