Located in the bustling Sydney CBD, this iconic tower is a premier office building committed to sustainability and elevated tenant amenities.
The tower’s need for a more sustainable and cost-efficient hot water solution for its end-of-trip (EOT) facilities would pave the way for the first Australian installation of the Rheem Commercial YF Series heat pump system.
The project would also set a benchmark for other commercial buildings aiming to enhance their green credentials, while reducing operational costs.
The brief
With Rheem’s track record for collaborating with partners to develop and implement innovative solutions, engineering company, Floth contacted Rheem Commercial to devise an ultra-efficient hot water system.
The system would need to support the upgrade of the tower’s new EOT facilities, including 22 showers and 12 basins.
The replacement of the existing heating plant would also need to be eco-friendly and in keeping with the building’s 5.5 star NABERS energy rating to reduce long-term operational costs.
After working together on the design with Floth, Rheem Commercial developed a comprehensive plan for the implementation of the new system.
The solution: YF Series heat pump
To achieve the building’s objective of energy efficiency and sustainability, the project team installed the cutting-edge Rheem Commercial Air to Water (A2W) 30kW YF Series heat pump.
These innovative heat pumps utilise R1234yf refrigerant, which has an ultra-low Global Warming Potential (GWP) of less than 1, significantly reducing the environmental impact.
The system’s improved Coefficient of Performance (COP) ensures high efficiency and reduced energy consumption, with an average COP of 4.28 for the 30kW model.
The installation was carried out by experienced commercial plumbing company, Mr Water Plumbing, together with Rheem Commercial. The solution was successfully integrated with the Building Management System (BMS), providing up-to-date information on the plant and ensuring optimal performance.
