Louvre windows from Safetyline Jalousie were specified for the Nissan Arena in Brisbane to promote cross-ventilation, provide safety and prevent traffic noise intrusion into the sporting facility.
Designed by Thomson Adsett Architects, Nissan Arena boasts a 5000-seat court as well as changing rooms and sports medicine facilities for community and elite athletes. The $44-million modern venue plays host to Suncorp Super Netball team – the Queensland Firebirds, and has been recognised as a significant investment for the Queensland government in the development of women’s sport.
Keeping in mind the business side of elite and community sport as an important consideration in ensuring the facility would be sustainable into the future, the architects worked alongside their clients and builder Hansen Yuncken to explore futureproofing strategies and simplify the construction to deliver the project within a tight budget.
Safetyline Jalousie supplied 96 louvre windows for the stadium, incorporating a mix of glass and aluminium louvre blades. Measuring 2244mm H x 1200mm W, the motorised louvre windows were powdercoated in Dulux Monument Satin and Dulux Manor Red Satin, and featured aluminium and 6mm clear toughened glass louvre blades.
In addition to maximising natural cross ventilation, Safetyline Jalousie’s unique horizontal louvre bearer provides impact resistance. With no exposed glass edges on the inside of the building, it was a much stronger and safer option over other alternatives.
The system’s acoustic rating of 33RW was another deciding factor, which would help to mitigate traffic noise intrusion from the adjacent freeways as well as provide internal sound absorption.
Assisting the design team to deliver the project on time, and on budget, the Australian made louvres were supplied as complete, framed and glazed units ready for installation. Choosing a prefab window system meant efficiency in construction, lower site costs, minimal waste and guaranteed quality assurance.
Safetyline Jalousie has been specified for a range of elite sports facilities nationwide, which is a testament to the high acoustic performance, quality and durability of the system.
