Prefabricated steel framing from SBS Group was installed at the 4-level Spring Malvern project in Malvern, Victoria, replacing the timber and structural steel stick build methods used in traditional construction.
Designed by C. Kairouz Architects, Spring Malvern features SBS Smart Frame on the walls and roof trusses as well as the balustrades, feature columns and entry canopy.
The SBS Group team worked with the builder, Pirovich Constructions to prefabricate the top level wall and roof trusses, balustrades, feature columns and entry canopy framing using cold formed steel. The framing was delivered to site for fast and simple installation.
SBS Group was also tasked with full shop detailing, frame and bracket layout plans, 3D modelling and engineering. Manufactured straight and true to site specifications, the lightweight wall and roof truss framing was installed manually, saving cranage install time for the builder.
The standalone engineered balustrade, columns and canopy solutions eliminated all precast, structural steel and infill framing requirements. The builder was also able to save on scaffolding costs with framing installed from the slab using EWP equipment. The frames were designed to enable cladding to be directly fixed.
