An architectural framing solution from SBS Group provided an efficient and productive outcome for the builder and contractor during the execution of the new Gateway Building project at Trinity College in Parkville, Victoria.
Designed by McIldowie Partners and built by Kane Constructions, the Gateway Building project featured innovative design concepts, utilising unique suspended cranked ceilings and wall features.
Prefabricated SBS Ultra Frame modules provided an alternative to conventional construction methods. The lightweight, yet high strength frame modules helped the project team retain the architectural vision and functionality while replacing traditional suspension systems with an accurate framing profile. Direct fixing of ceiling panels eliminated structural steel and secondary furring channels.
The modularised system was modelled using 3D processes, and manufactured and coordinated off-site with service trades, enabling the large sections of the complex ceiling to be installed without a problem.
