Project overview
The Garden Island forms a major part of the Royal Australian Navy's Fleet Base East. It includes active dockyards (including the Captain Cook Graving Dock), naval wharves and a naval heritage and museum precinct. Approximately half of the major fleet units of the RAN use the wharves as their home port.
Shed 80 in the Garden Island is where all the spare parts needed for the ships’ maintenance and repairs are kept. The floor is subject to heavy forklift activity all day, every day. A high traffic, shared zone area between heavy forklifts and personnel demands a high performance, easy to clean, safe, non-slip floor.
Project requirements
Durability, chemical resistance, texture levels, clean-ability along with OH&S requirements and light reflectivity were key considerations for the client.
Sika solution
Sikafloor MultiDur ET-14 with Sikafloor 264T top coat was installed as a non-blooming topcoat to tackle the challenges of the cold and moist environment of the Garden Island in June. Also, the stipple, orange peel finish of Sikafloor 264T incorporated with #80 Alumina provided the required level of anti slip in the shared zones.
