Project overview
The Glen Shopping Centre, located in the suburb of Glen Waverley, Melbourne went through extensive works in 2016-2017 to increase the shopping area and build two apartment blocks above the mall.
Project requirements
The increase in loads due to the extension required strengthening of the beams and slabs, using systems, which will not be visible and won’t use too much space.
Sika had to provide a solution to allow the contractors to create minimum disturbance for the customers, ensure a quick installation, and for the asset owner to be able to quickly return the refurbished spaces to service.
Sika solution
After discussing with the engineers and understanding the project requirements, Sika recommended the use of our carbon fibre strengthening systems, which have a proven track record around the world in various challenging projects. The engineers used our specialised calculation software to design this project.
For slab strengthening the following systems were used:

- Sika CarboDur S1012
- Sika CarboDur S1214
- Sika CarboDur S1512
- Sika CarboDur M1214
